As a digital type designer, I realized early on that I do not invent the character; I simply learn how to impose a system upon it that enables it to survive. We do not claim to have fully tamed the letter, but rather performed what I call "Conscious Taming": we controlled its chaos just enough to serve readability, meaning, and continuity.
